Most Important
When you receive your new Chi puppy you must treat it like the
fragile tiny baby that it is. You
MUST make sure that your puppy has soft canned food of good quality at all times
within a few feet of where he/she will be staying and that the puppy eats
regularly. Do not let the puppy
share food with other pets, you won’t be able to tell how much your new puppy
is actually eating. Your new puppy
should eat small amounts every 4 to 5 hours.
Hypoglycemia is a major issue in all small breeds.
If you are not fully aware of the symptoms you should research and learn.
Some signs of hypoglycemia are depression, sleepiness, loss of balance,
inactivity, eyes not blinking, shaking, stiffness in neck, and pale pink gums.
If you experience any of these signs IMMEDIATELY rub pancake syrup on the
puppies gums then rush the puppy to the veterinarian.
If your puppy’s blood sugar has not bottomed out he should fully
recover within 30 minutes. However,
if your puppies blood sugar has bottomed out he/she could die within minutes.
Also, children should not be allowed to handle the new puppy unless
sitting still and supervised. Chihuahuas
are tiny fragile little lives, not toys, and can instantly be killed by the
smallest drop or bump. Do not let
your new puppy roam freely in the house. They can easily be stepped on, get crushed under recliners,
chew on electrical cords, or fall down stairs.
You should not take your new puppy outdoors in cold or hot weather or
near other animals to help prevent sickness.
